“Who’s there?”
“Orange”
“Orange who?”
“Orange you glad you learn something new every day?!!”
I didn’t get into quilting for the math!! Although, there are a few occasions when I need it. Just a little mind you, not a whole semester of x’s and y’s squared over z!!
Been stripping again!!
Almost came out even!!
A pile of strips. I recently ran into a friend that sews, sew naturally our conversation turned to quilting. She said she loves to just sit and sew strips together because you don’t have to think. Just sew. Sew, for this project, I just sewed and put my pile of strips on the floor beside me!!
Next pressing the seams in one direction (I forgot to take a picture.) Then cuts. I used my EZ Flying Geese Cutting Tool.
A pile of triangles. Mix them up and select four triangles for each square.
Time to square up the squares. Like in Splash of Color, I used my Omigrid Tool to line up and trim each square.
Sew, what new thing have you learned today?
Today I tried what I’m calling, ‘Brilliant Sashing.’ In most quilt patterns, the sashing is a very long, narrow row compared to the size of the quilt square. A while ago I was watching one of my quilting shows, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting, on PBS in my area, in which the guest showed another way to add sashings.
There may have been a name for it, like ‘Fons Sashing’ or ‘Simple Sashing,’ but I don’t remember what she called it. I do remember thinking that’s easy!! I’ll have to try it!!
It was basically like adding two strips or ‘logs’ as in a Log Cabin quilt, on two perpendicular (oh there’s the math!!) sides. I did the right side and the bottom of each square. Then when I stitched the row, added the left side.
Then, almost like magic, the sashing is attached without a long narrow strip that often gets stretched sewing and pressing the ‘old’ way.
I was anxious to see how the Easy Sashing looked sew … I did a mock-up layout on my featherbed. I loved it!!
The new sashing method is simply brilliant!! I probably won’t use the old method ever again!!
I’m calling it, ‘Orange You Glad.’
